What
began as a highly unconventional itinerant church with a mobile congregation
of British soldiers of the East India Company and a few native Indians during
the 1760's, grew in to a large congregation when Christianity started taking
roots in the town of Vellore. Meeting in tents and houses first, the
congregation later met in a School building which doubled as a school on
weekdays and a church on Sundays.
